Description

Once the GDM greeter has been replaced with a more standard application, we don't need a display manager that can authenticate users. The project NoDM, developed for smartphones, does autologin without any extra feature:

It seems then to be the tool we need and it is already managed by Debian Live. However, if users want a real install on disk, maybe restoring a GDM display manager would be better, depends on whether there is one or several users in the end. This ticket results from discussions on the Live list:

It is also possible to write our own greeter based on LightDM:

However this would not remove the trick of fake users.
