As indicated on the second page:
“Unfortunately, Lenny 2.6.26 kernel contains the driver which will not work with AR242x.”
And this is the same for most of the wifi chipset that EeePc's are shipping. Using a backported kernel would solve the issue but:
- I understood the backport.org kernel doesn't ship the driver squashfs to uncompress Live image. We need to provide our own kernel.
- We may have troubles with some other functionalities, eg. the DDL battery monitor didn't work anymore on one of my laptops with 2.6.32. Additional backports may be required…
So I propose to not work on this issue and wait for the Squeeze-based DDL instead.

This issue should be solved using builds based on Squeeze.
